Weekend Rides.

Weekend rides consist of the usual Sunday ride, Rallies, Sponsored and joint ride with the Barossa Riding Group (BRG) on the first Sunday of the month unless notified.

Sponsored Ride

Every Branch has "sponsors" who support them with raffle prizes etc from time to time. They also "sponsor" a ride by opening their showrooms exclusively for us on a Sunday to purchase accessories/parts etc and usually provide a cooked breakfast on the premises. Ulysses members are encouraged to attend/support these rides and the businesses that provide them. These rides are for Ulysses members only.

Rally
A rally is an event run by a motorcycling organisation (not necessarily Ulysses) for the attendance and enjoyment of motorcycle enthusiasts e.g. Ghost Town Rally at Broken Hill or Wintersun Rally at Mildura. Coincidentally, both of these are organised by Ulysses Branches, but are not exclusively for Ulyssians. If you attend one of these rallies, be aware that there may be opportunities for Ulyssians to meet and greet people from other motorcycle clubs (not outlaw) or organisations.

Nashys Gladstone Gaol Weekend.

On Saturday 8th May, forty members joined us at Gawler, there were some on motorbikes and some in cars.
We set off at 0930am on a lovely sunny morning from Julian Terrace, for Clare via Tarlee, after an enjoyable steady ride into the Clare Valley we arrived in Clare for morning Smoko, where four members from the Yorke Peninsular met up with us. We stopped for about 40 minutes , once we were all refreshed with tea and coffee and of course fed our faces too, we set off for Gladstone.

After another seventy five kilometers of lovely riding weather, we finally reach Gladstone Gaol around lunchtime. We met up with seven more members from the Port Pirie Branch, following shortly after with four members from the Fleurieu Branch. During the course of the afternoon other members arrived from the Torrens Valley Branch.

This gave us a final total of 78 members attended for the Weekend, this was an excellent turnout. It was really good to have so many new members join us, some had never been away on a Ulysses weekend before. It was good to meet up with other members from other branches we had never met before.

Saturday afternoon was at leisure, some went for a walk and others went on a Pub crawl. We had fun at the Gaol taking photos of members in the mock up stocks, and having their names and number put on a Prisoner Identification board wearing a prisoners cap. This event was great fun and proved to be very popular.
At 5.30pm the Ghost tour started with our guide Tony, we headed off down the dark spooky cell wings, this was a bit scary for most of us,but Tony made the tour very interesting and funny in parts with his many prison stories.

After the Ghost tour it was time for Dinner, where many members went away and got changed into their P theme costumes. Then shortly after they made their way to the " Tin Shed" where we all enjoyed a lovely three course meal. It was really great to see how many members put so much effort and thought into making their costumes,we must say everyone looked fantastic on the night. After dinner everyone danced the night away to our great Rock and Roll band.

Sunday morning started off with Lyn and I donning our Prisoner suits and set about cooking the BBQ breakfast for everyone( with help from Peta and Darren Tedmanson). After a big breakfast , every one slowly got ready for the ride home.

As members were leaving, they thanked Lyn and I for a great weekend and they had a really good time. We would like to thank all the members who helped us on the weekend. Lyn and I enjoyed hosted the weekend, and would like to thank Tony Holland(Gaol Manager) for his Hospitality.

Thanks to all for coming.   Lyn and Steve. (The Nashys). 11 May 2010

A Weekend to Jamestown and the Booleroo Centre for the Steam Traction display.
On the weekend of March 27th and 28th, Lyn and myself met up with the Yorke Peninsula Riders Group led by Rod and Raelene Lind.
We joined his group of seven riders at Clare where we all had morning tea in one of the cafes there.
This was a good opportunity for our small group to get to know each other as some of us had never met before. After about half an hour of chatting and several cups of coffee we set off on a lovely warm sunny morning for Jamestown.
We all had different accommodation, some in the pubs in town and others on the local Caravan and Cabin park. After checking in we all met up at the Caravan park for drinks and nibbles and more socializing. Saturday night Rod had booked us all in the Commercial hotel for dinner. We all had a lovely meal there in a dining room we had to ourselves. After a good few hours there we all decided to go for a night walking tour of Jamestown, stopping briefly at the local Caltex service station to buy ice creams, we were lucky as the proprietor was just about to lock up for the night.
It was then Shuteye time and we all went back to our respected accommodations.
Rod arranged for us all to meet at the caravan park at 0930am the next day, for our ride to Booleroo Centre, a ride that took us about 45 minutes of a great scenic ride to visit the Steam Traction display day. This was a really good display of tractors and those giant steam driven machines from yesteryear. The display we got from the giant steam tractors was fantastic, to see those old machines still doing the work they were built for years ago. There was also a country market on were there was some real bargains to be bought both old and new.
To sum up our weekend away , it was great, Lyn and I really enjoyed our weekend away with the Yorke Peninsular Riders Group.
We would like to thank Rod and Rae and all their group for a good time.
We even enjoyed the rain we faced on our ride all the way home.
Looking forward to the next ride together.
Lyn and Steve Nash (THE NASHYS).
